Mike House adds healthcare CEO experience to Global’s Western Canada team

With his trademark creative touch combined with an entrepreneurial flair, Mike House, MBA, ICD.D, has been a professional fundraiser and senior executive for over twenty years. Along with a deep understanding of the intersection between healthcare systems, government and the community, Mike is known for his authentic approach to building trust, his curiosity and his creativity. Global Philanthropic Canada is proud to announce Mike has joined the firm as Senior Consultant and will be offering his expertise to organizations of all sizes starting February 1, 2024.

For the past eleven years, Mike led the Stollery Children’s Hospital Foundation in Edmonton as President and CEO, overseeing a team that generated over 100,000 donations and $45 million annually, and over $300 million raised during his tenure. Along with successfully leading several integrated capital and expansion campaigns, he executed two successful public advocacy campaigns to secure provincial capital dollar investments with both the NDP and UCP governments. Before the Stollery, he served as Assistant Dean of Business at the University of Alberta for seven years and was Senior Director with a national fundraising consulting firm for over five years. His vast experience has touched healthcare, education, social services and arts & culture sectors.

“I believe that the most impactful changes that happen in society occur when philanthropy unites community giving, government and business together under one cohesive vision,” says Mike. “Global’s expertise builds those uncommon bridges, helping non-profits realize their ambitions, which then leads to positive change in the world.  I am honoured to be part of that collaborative effort to create greater impact, and I hope to bring something unique, creative and valued to clients.”

Corrie Fortner, Vice President, Prairies with Global adds, “Mike is a fantastic addition to the Global Philanthropic Canada team! Over the years that I have known Mike, I have admired the skills, knowledge, authenticity and dedication he brings to his work. We’re thrilled to welcome a leader of Mike’s expertise and energy to our team, committed to providing top-notch services to the philanthropic sector. Welcome aboard Mike!”

Mike’s passion for fundraising and the profession has also led to several accolades recognizing his leadership in the industry. He was recognized internationally by Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals as the Network Person of the year in 2019 among 170 Children’s hospitals in North America. In 2022, Mike was recognized as the Global Impact Award Honoree representing Canada by the Young Presidents Organization, a global leadership community of CEOs.  He was awarded the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee Medal in 2022 for outstanding contributions to his community.

“I’m extremely pleased to welcome Mike to the Global team,” says Guy Mallabone, CEO and President of Global. “His deep understanding of the non-profit market in Alberta combined with his expertise and national reputation in healthcare philanthropy will provide huge positive impact for our clients.  And he is an all-around wonderful guy!”

Mike holds both a Bachelor of Commerce and an MBA from the University of Alberta, received his CFRE designation in 2001, and holds his ICD.D designation from the Institute of Corporate Directors.
