When fundraising and social impact are led through an unapologetically equity‑centred lens, miracles become possible. At Global Philanthropic Canada, the appointment of Chenai Kadungure as Senior Consultant brings a rare blend of global experience, community‑driven leadership, and a deep commitment to uplifting Black and marginalized communities into the heart of our philanthropic practice.
A career rooted in equity and impact
Joining Global Philanthropic in 2026, Chenai brings more than 15 years of experience leading transformative programs and projects across Africa, the Caribbean, and North America. Her work has consistently focused on building sustainable, equitable systems in health, education, entrepreneurship, and community development.
Prior to her role at Global Philanthropic, she served as Executive Director of the Black Physicians’ Association of Ontario (BPAO), where she championed initiatives to increase the representation of Black people in medicine and improve health outcomes for Black Ontarians. Her leadership at BPAO has made her a nationally recognized voice on equity in healthcare and racial justice.
A global perspective, grounded in local action
Chenai is a Zimbabwean‑Canadian Pan‑Africanist who “thinks global and acts local,” staying connected to global affairs while embedding her work in the lived realities of communities in Toronto and beyond. Her experience spans international development organizations such as CARE Canada, where she supported multi‑million‑dollar nutrition initiatives in Southern Africa, and social‑impact organizations like Black Youth Success, Skills for Change, and Social Designs/Change Institute International in Barbados.
Her background in program development, strategic fundraising, and impact measurement equips her to design campaigns that are not only financially successful but also deeply aligned with mission and values. She has developed holistic mentorship and entrepreneurship programs, created robust M&E frameworks, and built partnerships with entities ranging from the United Nations and Rotary International to foundations and community‑based organizations.
From frontline service to national leadership
Chenai’s journey reflects a powerful commitment to “service above self.” Beginning in grassroots roles, including community outreach, customer care, and door‑to‑door fundraising, she learned early how resource‑constrained organizations can still mobilize support when they are grounded in authenticity and trust.
Her rise to senior leadership roles—such as Executive Director at BPAO and Director of Strategic Programs and Outreach at organizations like Rituals for Recovery—has been shaped by lived experience as an immigrant, a Black woman, and a woman of African descent advocating for equity in health, education, and philanthropy.
A changemaker in the philanthropic ecosystem
Chenai is widely recognized as a changemaker and equity champion. She has been named one of Canada’s Top 100 Black Women to Watch, an Aga Khan Global Leader, a Women Changing the World Awardee, and a Global News Hometown Hero, among other distinctions.
She also serves on multiple boards and advisory councils, including Ontario Health, York University, the Meta Centre, BORN Ontario, AMREF Health Africa in Canada, the African Union, and the United Nations networks, further amplifying her ability to connect philanthropy with systemic change.
These roles allow her to sit at the intersection of policy, practice, and community, ensuring that the fundraising strategies she co‑creates are informed by both data and lived experience.
How Chenai strengthens Global Philanthropic Canada
At Global Philanthropic, Chenai’s work as a Senior Consultant focuses on:
- Equity‑Centred Fundraising Strategy: Helping organizations embed equity into donor engagement, case for support, and stewardship practices so that fundraising not only raises money but also advances inclusion.
- Community‑Driven Campaigns: Designing capital, annual, and special‑initiative campaigns that resonate with Black, immigrant, and other historically underserved communities, activating new donor bases and strengthening existing relationships.
- Leadership and Capacity Building: Coaching leadership teams on how to align their mission with their fundraising culture, build trust with donors, and create sustainable, values‑driven programs.
Her presence reinforces Global Philanthropic’s commitment to “Impact‑Led Philanthropy”—where fundraising is not an end in itself, but a vehicle for measurable, mission‑driven change.
A voice that inspires action and accountability
Beyond strategy and execution, Chenai is a sought‑after keynote speaker, trainer, and social‑impact educator who believes that conversations around equity must be bold, honest, and action‑oriented.
Through her own platform, Chenspiration, she blends motivational leadership with data‑driven frameworks and emerging technologies to help individuals and organizations unlock their potential for impact. This same ethos will inform her work with Global Philanthropic clients, ensuring that campaigns are not only successful but also inspire donors to become long‑term partners in transformation.
A new chapter in philanthropy
With Chenai Kadungure on board, Global Philanthropic Canada is not simply adding another consultant to its roster; it is deepening its commitment to equity, community, and global‑Southern leadership within the Canadian philanthropic landscape. Her arrival signals a powerful moment: when fundraising is infused with both rigorous strategy and an unwavering commitment to justice, organizations can achieve more than revenue targets—they can reshape systems.
Stay tuned for the groundbreaking work that will emerge as nonprofit leaders, donors, and communities partner with Chenai to build a more equitable, inspired, and impact‑driven futur
