Holiday Recipe: “Suburban Restaurant” Pecan Pie (Brandon, Manitoba, 1950's-70’s)

This recipe is important to me because my parents could not afford to dine out as our family grew but once a year they would treat themselves at this very special Brandon restaurant. My siblings and I would get 25 cents each to go to McDonald’s on these occasions. Everyone was happy!

Ingredients

  • 1 cup corn syrup
  • ¼ cup white sugar
  • ¼ cup butter (melted)
  • 3 eggs
  • 1 tsp vanilla
  • Pinch of salt
  • 1 cup pecans

Directions

  1. Beat eggs, corn syrup, melted butter, sugar, salt and vanilla.
  2. Place pecans into bottom of pie shell and pour the egg mixture over the top.
  3. Bake 40 minutes in 300-degree oven.
  4. Test with a knife- if it comes out clean the pie is done.
  5. Pie will set when it cools.
