Philip is a senior global leader with two decades at the intersection of international development, philanthropy, and organizational strategy. A relational leader known for cross-cultural fluency, he brings coherence across complex systems, aligning stakeholders across geographies and guiding organizations through growth and transition.
He brings deep expertise in global partnerships, sustainable funding models, and translating mission into clear strategy and measurable impact. Philip’s focus includes Executive Leadership & Organizational Strategy, Institutional & Government Funding (USAID, FCDO, GAC), Governance & Board Engagement, and Revenue Oversight for $49M+ portfolios.
Philip served as Senior Director of Advancement for the Wellspring Foundation for Education, where he led strategy, advancement, and communications, managing a cross-cultural team across Canada and Rwanda. He is also Founder of the Giardino Agency, a boutique consultancy advising nonprofit leaders on major donor strategy, campaign development, and Fractional Leadership.
Previously, Philip was Global Director of Philanthropy for Mary’s Meals International, overseeing a multi-million dollar international portfolio, driving significant growth in corporate and UHNW revenue, and managing key institutional relationships with major government funders. As Director of Philanthropy for Variety, The Children’s Charity of BC, he secured strong unrestricted revenue gains and directed fund-raising efforts for Variety Week and the Show of Hearts Telethon. As National Director of Development & Mobilization for Tearfund Canada, he oversaw a multi-million-dollar portfolio, grew major donor revenue, and helped to secure substantial private and institutional funding, including support from Global Affairs Canada.
Earlier, he held senior roles as Executive Director of Dignity Freedom Network Canada, National Director and BC Director of Development for International Justice Mission Canada — where he grew BC’s revenue nearly eightfold — and Senior Development Officer for Regent College.
Philip holds a Postgraduate Diploma in Poverty & Inequality from the University of Birmingham, a Postgraduate Diploma in Christian Studies from Regent College, and a Bachelor of Divinity (Honours 2:1) from the University of Aberdeen. He speaks intermediate French and Italian.
Fun fact: Philip is a long-distance runner and avid hiker and camper. Since 2017 he has coached soccer with Langley United Soccer Association, leading two teams to Coastal Cup Gold and 2nd and 3rd in Provincials.
