James McMillan Joins Pacific Team as Senior Consultant

There is no doubt that James McMillan found his niche and mastered his skills. For 35 years, James has been involved with philanthropy and is particularly well-known on the West Coast of Canada for his work with independent schools. Based in Shawnigan Lake, British Columbia, James says, “I am honoured and excited to be a part of such a incredible team of professionals that share their experiences and expertise.”

For over forty years, James was a valued team member with Selwyn House School in Montreal, ultimately being promoted to Director of Advancement. Most recently, he was Director of Philanthropy at St. Margaret’s School in Victoria, British Columbia. Cumulatively, he has helped to raise significant capital and endowment funds and is well-versed on creating and fostering a successful team.

His vast experience includes setting up fundraising offices to organize capital and annual giving campaigns, working with databases and advising organizations on how to maximize the use of existing Board members and analyzing what strengths they may be missing in current Board members. He has also conducted feasibility studies and interviewed potential donors for clients.

“We are fortunate to have someone of James’ proven expertise – particularly with independent schools – as a part of the team,” says Jeff Sodowsky, Vice President Pacific and Senior Consultant.

“I’m delighted to welcome Jaime to our team of professionals,” adds Guy Mallabone, CEO and President, “and I know our clients are going to benefit immensely from his excellent counsel and experience.”

A member of Canadian Accredited Independent Schools’ Advancement Professionals (CAISDO, then CAISAP and now ISAP Canada) since 1987, he has also served many years as a member of the Board of CAISAP and was President of CAISAP in 1997. In addition to co-hosting national conferences, he was responsible for fundraising for many CAISAP National Conferences. He has been a member of CAGP, and AFP and was a Board Member of CCAE from 2018-2019. James was awarded the Sam Heaman Award for distinguished service by CAISAP in 2007.
