Global welcomes one of the ‘Cookie Queens of Canada’ as Senior Consultant in Dunnville, Ontario

There are some fundraisers you deeply admire, and Penny Banks is certainly one of those individuals. Penny wears her fundraising heart on her sleeve. She connected with Global Philanthropic Canada in 2022 when she was invited to be a guest on The SharedBrain Podcast. She spoke with us about her collective success with the Dunnville Hospital & Healthcare Foundation, alongside a team of fundraising professionals. As Executive Director, Penny and her team linked up with the Tim Hortons Smile Cookie Campaign and Dunnville’s tiny hospital foundation fundraised more money than any organization in Canada. Dunnville is now the “Cookie Capital of Canada”, crowning Penny and her former team the “Cookie Queens of Canada”.

Fast forward to 2023, Penny is appointed Senior Consultant with Global’s Ontario team. An established event planner and fundraising professional for over 20 years, Penny has a breadth of experience in annual signature events and major and corporate giving – including sponsorships – that make her a perfect fit to lend her expertise to Canada’s premier non-profits looking to elevate their missions. She has been fundraising for most of her career and is currently a professor at Fanshawe College in Fundraising and Public Relations. She held positions in higher education advancement at Queen’s University, worked as Manager of Community Giving with CNIB, and, most recently, in hospital foundations where she was successful at raising $1 million to ensure exceptional patient care and equipment upgrades.

Penny’s passion and expertise in annual programs have been instrumental in her success.  She is a results-oriented and driven professional with experience in developing and implementing successful fundraising plans with a particular focus on direct marketing.

“I am thrilled to have Penny join our Ontario Team of consultants,” says Dora Boylen-Pabst, Vice President Ontario and Senior Consultant. “Her background and expertise are perfect for our team, and for our current and future clients. Direct Response marketing and the associated understanding of systems are very important to ALL fund development activity and is one of the most commonly sought-after services we provide, either through counsel or through interim support/execution.”

“Becoming a Senior Consultant with Global Philanthropic Canada is not only an honour, but a privilege,” says Penny. “To work in collaboration with a talented group of fundraising professionals is a career goal I am thrilled to have achieved.”

Guy Mallabone, CEO and President of Global Philanthropic Canada adds, “I’m delighted to welcome Penny to the Global Philanthropic Canada team.  Her experience in healthcare fundraising and university/college advancement, as well as community-based organizational fundraising, makes her a strong resource for our clients in Ontario and elsewhere in Canada.”

Penny was IDEA Chair with the Association of Fundraising Professionals in southeastern Ontario. She holds a Certified Fundraising Executive (CFRE) designation.

Penny now offers a complimentary 30-minute session to assess the next steps to achieve success for your organization.
