Case studies and testimonials

We made a smart decision to engage outside counsel to guide us in developing our comprehensive philanthropic naming program.

Global Philanthropic brought an excellent mix of professional expertise, understanding for a complex organization like the Heart Institute, and the ability to work collaboratively with a wide range of stakeholders. The input was both strategic and tactical. The end product is exactly what we needed and will serve us for many years.

Michael Poliwoda, Vice President, Philanthropy, University of Ottawa Heart Institute Foundation

Our work with the Global Philanthropic team was enormously valuable in helping us formulate our fundraising strategy in Asia.

Their work has given us deep insight into the perspectives, motivations and interests of our Asian alumni and parent communities, and their final report has provided us with a road-map of concrete and actionable steps to catalyze breakthrough fundraising success in the region.

The project dramatically advanced our understanding of how to improve our engagement activities in Asia, as well as opportunities to enhance our communications, parent and alumni relations and student experience for our Asian families. It was a true pleasure working with (Global) throughout the entire project, and we were consistently impressed by the calibre and professionalism of their work. I would recommend Global Philanthropic to others without hesitation.”

Shane Smyth, Executive Director External Relations, Lakefield College School

In 2015, we began the largest capital campaign in our history. We partnered with Global Philanthropic, as campaign counsel, to help us develop and execute a comprehensive campaign strategy and plan. They have been with us every step of the way, providing strategic advice, direction and leadership to all levels of the organization.

Their professional experience and guidance have been instrumental to the success of our campaign, and will help us cross the finish line, serving us for many years to come.

The little boy had been bringing the same sandwich to school for three days.  The same sandwich.  He’d take one bite, wrap it up, and the next day, take a second bite.  He didn’t want to feel left out at lunch time.

This young person is one of over a thousand children in the Halton District School Board whom Halton Learning Foundation supports every year – and we’ve been doing it for over 15 years.  Whether it’s food, clean clothing, hygiene supplies, a coat, eyeglasses, school supplies, $10 for a field trip or buying proper boots for a work term, HLF always says “yes” when asked by a school principal for help.

One of the most important things in life are relationships; they are the lifeblood that keeps you strong in good times and not so good times.  The relationship that Halton Learning Foundation has developed with Global Philanthropic has been simply tremendous and is helping transform how we support students in financial need. I heard Guy Mallabone speak at the 2015 AFP Congress and his discussion on major gifts has shifted our Foundation’s perspective on helping further our mission, focusing less on special events and more on creating a relationship with individual donors.  His perspective on the case for support (must be compelling, urgent and passionate) has guided the development of our own case and is helping to bring people closer to HLF, which has resulted in some wonderful new relationships.  Coupled with the enormous amount of support that our Lead Consultant provided, our Foundation is making the changes needed to attract new gifts and continue to help those kids who just want to enjoy school and learn – not worrying about how they can afford the basics.

Thank you to the entire GP team – you are changing lives!

Lesley Mansfield, Executive Director, Halton Learning Foundation

The team at Global Philanthropic very quickly assessed and appreciated the environment in which we were working, and at the same time helped me understand the world of fundraising.

Along with demonstrated expertise, they bring a very genuine, personal approach to the business of philanthropy. Non-profit organizations with limited fundraising experience will surely benefit from Global Philanthropic’s service and guidance.

I have worked closely with Global to develop a Graduate Development Program for fundraisers. The aim was to attract the brightest fundraising / marketing grads and give them a structured and practical education in fundraising.

Global was attentive to our needs and flexible in co-creating what was eventually launched as the Accelerated Career Program. It was a highly successful collaboration and will support the organization into the future.

Working with Global Philanthropic has changed the way Lake of the Woods District Hospital Foundation works with our community partners and what we are ultimately able to deliver to the community.

Under their strategic counsel, we now operate very differently and more effectively.  We have gone from a two-person shop to a three-person shop.  Our transition into Major Gift fundraising is forecasting a seven figure impact on what we can do for our hospital over the next couple of years.

Global Philanthropic is very knowledgeable, professional, punctual and makes learning and inevitably change, fun and exciting and a no-brainer.  Our small shop is very lucky to have caught their eye and are thankful that they saw our potential and was were willing to take us on and lead us down this new road.  The question isn’t “Can we afford to?” The question is “Can we afford not to?” (Hint-you can’t afford not to!)

Jess Rheault, Executive Director, Lake of the Woods District Hospital Foundation

Global’s Philanthropic Naming Assessment was extremely valuable for us.  It was completed with the highest quality, and provided us with a road-map for our donor’s generosity.

Jonathon Lyon, President & CEO, Health Sciences Centre Foundation

The unique value proposition if you work with Global is the major gift expertise and the best practice. You would swear that they were staff members, just as committed to the achievement of our campaign plan as we were. We’ve had a very positive experience.

It was an intense piece of work and utmost professionalism from Guy and all of his team. We really felt that they were 100% if not 110% committed to our project.

I needed to learn, I think the institution needed to learn, we needed to understand where we were and where we needed to be to move this forward. So partnering with Guy was very instrumental.

Today, months later, we are definitely in a better shape than we were a year ago, because of that report and because also our ability to understand more about what needs to be done to be successful in fundraising.

I really like the international perspective that Global brings to its clients, and I think in the Canadian market that’s fairly unique. We’ve got a really solid report of recommendations that will help us develop an action plan for moving forward.

One of the things that I found particularly valuable is their boutique approach to provide service to their clients. I felt that every tool they provided us was very tailored and customized to our unique situation.
